Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the most frequently asked questions we receive at Abacus Embedded. If you have a question and it is not listed below, then just 'Ask Abacus' and we'll get back to you!!

Q. How long does an evaluation CD last?

A: It depends. Windows XP Embedded, Windows CE 5.0 and WEPOS last 120 days from first boot and Windows CE 6.0 and Embedded Server last 180 days from first boot.

Q: Can I deploy an image built in the evaluation version?

A: No. You need to purchase either the full development kit or request the relevant OPK.

Q: Do I need a CLA to purchase a development kit?

A: No. You only need to have in place a CLA to purchase the relevant runtime licenses.

Q: Is there a cost involved to get a CLA?

A: No. The CLA is free to complete and we facilitate this on your behalf with Microsoft. It usually take two weeks for the CLA to be processed and approved.

Q: What is your standard delivery time?

A: Our standard delivery is next working day.

Q: Can I tranfer my XPe evaluation image into the full developement kit, Target Designer?

A: Yes. You need to import the SLD and SLX files into the Target Designer.

Q: What is the difference between XP Professional for embedded systems and XP Professional OEM?

A: There is no difference technically. The difference is in the licensing terms. Also with XP Professional for embedded systems you can obtain Multi-Language User Interface (MUI) at no additional cost.

Q: I am trying to install Target Designer but I am receiving the error message 'Can't Complete Installation' between loading CD2 and CD3.

A: This can be linked to the SQL database. Reboot the machine between loading CD2 and CD3 to activite MSDE.

Q: I have purchased the Target Designer and am ready to release the image but I do not have the product ID key.

A: The product ID key is the 25 digit alphanumeric key which is included with the runtime licenses. You can not release an image without purchasing runtime licenses first.
